Sales Acceleration Coach
Former Partner and Vice President
Bob Scherer is an expert on digital packaging and label printing and how brands and marketers are using the technology. Selling printing plates to the corrugated and packing industry following graduation from California State College (now California State University) in 1978, Bob was at the helm of CL&D Digital for 18 years (through April 2013) and continues to contribute to the digital printing industry at large through public speaking while he builds his virtual sales consultant/coach business.
As a conference speaker on the topic of hiring for profitable sales as well as digital printing, Scherer enjoys and excels at the challenge of finding new and exciting topics to share with colleagues and clients at these public, private, and semi-private events. Gauging by the number who linger to chat after the sessions, attendees agree. In his presentations, Scherer has fun and jokes with the audience, ensuring that there is always something to make them laugh.
Tom Cooper, R&D manager digital printing, RockTenn Merchandising Displays, says, "Bob gets it. He's truly an evangelist. He'll take a difficult situation where someone says they will commoditize something and Bob will explain the value-add, but he does it in a fun, non-confrontational way."
One of the largest HP installations in North America, CL&D Digital counts 75 of the top 100 consumer-products goods company as clientele. Scherer's recognition as a leader in the print and packaging industry has come from vice presidents and presidents who needed to make decisions; persons who do not have the luxury of time. These company principals need coaching by someone who can make things happen — exactly what Bob did every day for 18 years. Now Bob is focusing on his seasoned sales experience and sharing it with new clients.
When asked by a Proctor & Gamble executive why he should choose Bob and CL&D Digital when there were so many other options, Bob pointed to a million-dollar purchase that was considered and decided in just three days. This type of fast thinking and quick decision-making resonates well at the leadership level of any company with an eye to their bottom line.
Bob Scherer assembled the top-notch team and ran the production and sales from 1995-2013. He understands every aspect of the business and fostered a culture of can do or get out.
On a personal note
Bob Scherer's dedication shows in his personal life, too, as he has run six marathons, including the Boston Marathon and one ultra-marathon (about 32 miles). Though he runs a few times a week, he is not a competitive racer but rather looks to races as an opportunity to meet people and make connections. Scherer has one adult daughter who is quite apparently the spark in her father's eye.
Both Bob and his daughter are involved in one of Wisconsin's largest running clubs, which organizes running events in order to benefit charities and causes. Scherer is also past president of Wisconsin's largest SCUBA club.
